Well it's safe to say that this is an interesting time! I have hesitated to send an email introducing myself not sure what the future holds but I've decided we'll just keep planning and hoping and will adjust as needed.
Welcome to Team 9! My name is Brenna and I will be your childs Coach. My daughter is Tessa and is a 2nd Grader at Minnewashta Elementary. I'm happy to share that we have a LOT of help leading the team which is great. We have parent volunteers already in the Manager and co-coach roles. I played softball growing up and into my adult years, including up until last year, but this will be my first time coaching a team of 1st and 2nd Graders so I ask for your Grace in advance since I'm sure to need it at some point!
My main priorities are two things - 1. That your child would develop a love of the sport. Softball really can be a lifetime sport and builds such great community relationships at every age. I have friendships from every age and stage of my life directly related to softball teams. 2. That your child build confidence in trying new things knowing they won't succeed the first time. Softball has a lot of technique and a lot of rules to gain understanding. Learning as we go and allowing for failure is an important part of the game. It may not always look like a game of softball but if we hit goal 1 and 2 then we've had a successful day.
As of now the timeline that I am aware of is as follows....
3/18 - I will pick up Equipment (I confirmed just this morning that this is still happening since it's not a group together)
3/18 - They send out the Coaches meeting info PPT instead of meeting in person - great call Minnetonka Softball.
3/21 - Uniform Orders need to be placed by this date. Per the email that went out today, they are waiting until the very last minute to order uniforms and will work on refunds for the season if needed.
4/6 - This week practices will start
4/16 - Games will start this week.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out and I'll do my best to answer them! My goal is to keep emails to a minimum as much as possible given how many we are all receiving during this time. Don't hesitate to reach out -
